About the Artist :
Kathryn retired to the Coldstream area of the Okanagan to live out the dream of painting and riding her horses full time. Born and raised in London, Ontario, she longed for the west after a holiday there and has lived in several places including Cochrane, Alberta, Vancouver, and the Lower Mainland of BC. Involved in many aspects of art throughout her life, Kathryn previously had her own business designing, making and selling metal art for the home and garden. She found painting while living in Alberta and was inspired while on one of her travels to pick up the brush. She started out in acrylic but now the main focus is in oil painting. She loves creating different styles of abstract, realistic art and impressionism, sometimes incorporating them together. She constantly looks for new ways to express her creativity and grow as an artist. Her inspiration comes from her love of birds, wildlife and especially her horses, Santos and Arrow and the places they ride together. Her many interests include travel, gardening and hiking with her dog, Jazz, where she always has her camera handy! The western heritage and culture of Alberta is reflected in her series of western art and paintings inspired from local events and wildlife. Her new home in Coldstream, with all the orchards, scenic lakes, wildlife and vineyards, will no doubt give her endless inspiration and new experiences for future works.
